“The Mad Hatter: “Would you like some wine?”
Alice: “Yes…”
The Mad Hatter: “We haven’t any and you’re too young.”
– Alice in Wonderland
Well then, there might not have been any wine. But there sure was a whole load of free flow champagne.
And quiet frankly, I prefer the bubbles. And the Mad Hatter’s Champagne Brunch @ Shook! KL was definitely the highlight of my week, especially when I heard that it was back in town, and in a big way too.
Formerly known for its thematic Masquerade Champagne brunch, Shook! just brought back its bubbly event, with an all new Alice in Wonderland-inspired theme. Spot Alice, the Mad Hatter, a magician or two, serving up some fun and laughs at this effervescent event.. it’s the best spot for a tea party, definitely!
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
“I don’t much care where –”
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”
– Alice in Wonderland
Walking around Shook! I think even Lewis Caroll would have been impressed. The team managed to transform the restaurant into a surrealistic landscape, a real playground for Alice in Wonderland and her mythical friends.
“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”
– Alice in Wonderland
The fun starts from the minute you meed the Mad Hatter himself, and he bends your cutlery for you, so you find it impossible to have tea with!
Then, step through the giant clock archway and meander along life-sized props of stacked cakes, teapots and books, finally arriving at a water fountain garden area, which means that you’ve finally discovered the Queen’s Garden.
The buffet spread is exciting to say the least. Executive Chef Matthew Ona, made sure he pulled out all the stops. Be amazed by the Whole Marinated Darling Lamb Carcass and Cumberland Sausage Rope at the live action carvery station.
The buffet spread had in fact, 4 open kitchens: Japanese, Chinese, Western Grill and Italian – loads to pick from so don’t say you didn’t have enough to eat.
The best part of this buffet is actually the Dessert Bar.. just head for the white fences. This cool area served themed desserts, such as Red Velvet Pillows, Pot Au Chocolate, Hatter Cake Pops, and a pink chocolate fountain with fruits and homemade marshmallows. It was just too delectably surreal for words. Made me want to eat everything.
What time is it..? “Tea time!”
“10 shillings and 6 pence .. for that fine hat!”
Guests opting for the Champagne brunch priced at RM268++ per person will get to enjoy free-flowing Moet & Chandon Champagne. There is also a food only option at RM168++ per person.
