Fans of Scottish single malt whisky, rejoice.
Glenglassaugh has finally arrived in KL.
We met Glenglassaugh brand ambassador, Mr Stewart Buchanan, last week at the Blue Elephant and there, we sampled for the first time, Glenglassaugh Revival, Glenglassaugh Evolution and Glenglassaugh Torfa.
Glenglassaugh, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries dating back to 1875, is situated on the Banffshire coast close to the village of Portsoy. It was founded by a local merchant named James Moir.
While many distilleries have become highly automated, at Glenglassaugh, the spirit is still handcrafted by a small, highly skilled team dedicated to creating the highest quality product.
Revival was the first single malt Scotch whisky that has been produced in over 20 years from the Glenglassaugh distillery. I smelt, caramel and toffee with notes of nutty sherry. On the palate, it was sweet, rounded and creamy, and the finish was medium with nice spices.
Evolution, we learned, had been matured in first fill ex-Tennessee whisky barrels and showed great depth of character. I smelt sweet barley and vanilla on the first sip. On the palate, it was peppery, and it had a vibrant oak finish.
Finally Torfa.. the most interesting of the lot – tons of character, and really rather peaty. Glenglassaugh Torfa with its phenolic traits was vivid and sweet on the nose. Upon first sip, the peat aromas engulfed my tastebuds – it had a campfire smokiness to it, and also traces of lemon zest. The finish was again peaty with spiced fruit flavours. This one definitely left a lasting impression on me.

A lovely evening at Blue Elephant spent in the company of great whisky, and a charming man, Glenglassaugh’s brand ambassador, Mr Stewart Buchanan. We can’t wait to see the range on more shelves, in the Malaysian market, that’s for sure.
